Words of A Kemcolian Pixie.

Knowledge and Information.

Parhai Or Taleem..?

Unsa Athar

He who knows not, and knows not that he knows not, is a fool. Shun him.
He who knows not, and knows that he knows not, is
simple. Teach him.
He who knows, and knows not that he knows, is
asleep. Wake him.
He who knows, and knows that he knows, is
wise. Follow him.
The demonstrator explains the clavicle. I listen. I frown. Itna kuch itni si bone mein :-| I learn it. I revise it with friends.
Holidyas.
I think  Chalo clavicle hi revise kr letey hain. I try. But I cannot remember much about it. CLAVICLE TK BHOOL GYI.
Why? Because it was some idiotic information that just doesn’t stay in my brain. It keeps on slipping out.
I just have to cram and cram and cram it to memorize things.  Every year, the same incidents happen. Conceptual study jitni b krlo, marna to end mein ratta hi hota hai.
I wake up till 3 o clock, trying to revise the entire course.  I get a permanent acne and hair fall problem. Why? Why do I do this? Why do I take the pain?
BECAUSE
I have a dream.  A Goal.  I keep the end in mind. In Matric, my goal was to get into a good college. In Fsc, it was to get into KE. And now, short-term goals.  Like filhaal it is to paas the sub-stage. :P
BUT
Why does it hurt then?  When I achieve my goal, why can’t I forget the pain I had to go through for it?
MAY BE
May be because my goals are disoriented. May be what I am doing is not what I ought to do.
I cram the information. I forget about the knowledge that I should be gaining.

I forget the difference between TALEEM and ILM..!!

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The seeking of knowledge is obligatory for every Muslim." - Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 74

So we have forgotten what we were told do. We were told to go and find the knowledge present in the world, to find the secrets of Allah, the truth behind our existence and the acts that are needed to be done in this world.
Education used to be the craze of knowing the unknown for seeking Allah’s pleasure. Education used to be ILM. Muslim scholars used to sit and ponder over the rules of Algebra because they knew they’ll benefit the world somehow by their world and this shall please their Lord. And hence they created a difference in the world.  Their names and works were written down in sunehri  haroof.
But it was the story of the old times. We cannot do what they did. We have a different environment now; a different education system.  Today education is TALEEM. So how can we apply those rules of knowledge?
We can! Islam was not created for a specific time period or era. It is a universal deen and a complete code of life. We just have to seek the answers to all our queries and troubles.
In the pressure of education of today’s system every student is being crushed. It’s a DO OR DIE scenario. But in spite of all this, if we just reset our goals, if we just review the end that we have in mind all the pain can be treated easily. If as a student you are working hard day and night just to become a BABU, you will certainly go through the pain of pressure. (BABU is defined as a gentleman of the subcontinent who dresses and speaks like the English. This was a term introduced by the British in the subcontinent to differentiate between the English and the Asian men. ) But if you have the intention of seeking knowledge for Allah’s pleasure, every moment of pain  you spend in rattalizing those creepy bones shall bring swab  to you.  Just fill your heart with the light of Allah. In subjects that we have to study as medical students, always ponder over the minute details that Allah has put into everything. Praise the karigari   of Allah. Whining about the minute veins and nerves in the human body while studying them shall only depress you.  But getting awed by the creation of Allah and saying SUBHAN-ALLAH shall not only add some good deeds to your right shoulder book but also make it learning easier for you.
Always find the practical applications of anything that you study. Always try to apply the knowledge you have for the welfare of mankind. The practical application of the study we, medical students, are doing is so full of rewards but if only our intentions are right.
The Prophet said: "Knowledge from which no benefit is derived is like a treasure out of which nothing is spent in the cause of God." - Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 108

It’s just all the game of Neyat!
And remember your status as a student! Be true to your studies because they make better than others! Thank Allah for He has given you the opportunity to get yourself educated!
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "If anyone travels on a road in search of knowledge, God will cause him to travel on one of the roads of Paradise. The angels will lower their wings in their great pleasure with one who seeks knowledge. The inhabitants of the heavens and the Earth and (even) the fish in the deep waters will ask forgiveness for the learned man. The superiority of the learned over the devout is like that of the moon, on the night when it is full, over the rest of the stars. The learned are the heirs of the Prophets, and the Prophets leave (no monetary inheritance), they leave only knowledge, and he who takes it takes an abundant portion. - Sunan of Abu-Dawood, Hadith 1631

  1. very true things said
BABU is the motive for most...yeah its hard to admit but i would count myself too. Wish it was that easy to just turn a switch and voila new motives. they grew inside us with the society we were raised in all those years

  3. yeah :)
it'll all come down to the free will debate

  4. I am afraid this student is trying to justify the fact that our professors make us study things which have no application in the real word. The 1st and 2nd year students will forget most of the stuff in 3rd year and so on. The main reason is that you are not taught the stuff which really matters in life. Like one of the professors said, " Anatomy should be taught by surgeons", We need to bridge the gap between the basic and clinical sciences. The examination system is flawed. The curriculum is out-dated and the teachers are not ready to accept any change. KE is Doomed.
just an advice, waste your time on something which is worth remembering. Instead of remembering about the ridges and notches of the bone, spend some quality time on learning about the most common fractures of the same bone and their management. Another way to motivate yourself is to always remember ur future patients.

  5. Agreed :) but to get to the clinics.. we need to memorize the ridges and notches for at least some time, to paas the exams which is a really difficult task. And this student has just tried to justify the way memorizing it can be made less painful

  6. Somehow in our education system, it's all left to the students...! In class we may not be taught the clinical aspects of things but in profs, those same professors who never bother to teach us throughout the year...pounce on us with questions unheard of..! answers tu door ki baat hai..! I pity our system..!

  7. I am criticizing the author on the fact that she is trying to justify absurdity!! And it is not her fault! Nothing can justify this lunacy! I apologize for these statements but trust me, No patient and his doctor give a Rat's a$$ about the ridges of his bone when he is screaming in pain from a broken bone!! Now is that hard for our professors/exam branch to understand?!
We do not challenge our system. Students who do that r subjected to Supply or Detained for their behavior.
Secondly, the professors need to start thinking about the students. The real change have to start from the top.

  8. True say! If only the authorities realized this too.

  9. Unsa you have written absolutely true! We can earn a lot of Sawab by changing our Niyyat towards the right side!
