Electives at PIC - Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Lahore

PUNJAB INSTITUTE OF CARDIOLOGY ELECTIVES
by Aariz Zainab 4th Year

( FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO DO ELECTIVES AT PIC AND HAVE ENUF TIME AT HAND AND WANT TO SPEND IT IN A CONSTRUCTIVE MANNER-OK ENUF OF INTRO LETS GT TO THE POINT)
Maam Afshan is the electives coordinator at PIC. Start the application process at least 3 months prior to the date u want for electives. I have no of maam afshan if anyone wants it.

STEPS:HOW TO DO IT?

1.Take the elective application form from PIC or their website. I think i got it from ma friends at PIC.
2.Attach result of 1st and 2nd Prof to it plus an ID card copy of urs. I think i m leaving smthing out so check out d form. After filling it get a photocopy of all of the form plus attached things.
3.The 2nd or 3rd page has to be filled up by the Clerk in room no 3 who also gets it signed by VC. Fr dt write an application addressing the VC dt u want to do electives at PIC nd fr dt u need clearance.Diary dt application.Submitt the photocopy nd original form both to the clerk. He ll keep the copy and return the original one back to you after getting it signed.
4.After getting the form write an application to MS PIC asking for permission to do electives at PIC.Take dt in person to office of MS at 9 o clock any day nd get it signed. He might ask u a question or two abt why u want to do electives at PIC.
5.After dt keep on checking with maam afshan so that she considers your application and gives u a starting date asap.
6.In the end i would say electives at PIC only matter if u want to make a difference. It always helps if you have done it rather than not doin it but while you do it try to learn frm it.If it does not add anything xtra in ur heads then it is obviously of no use.But PIC has great to offer.I really liked the surroundings and atmosphere as compared to Mayo bt it really lacked d motivation nd zeal v c here in KEMU.
7.Try to perform good who knows you might get an LOR.
Timings 1.morning 8am to 1pm 2.noon 3pm to 7pm ....non-officially u can skip few hours.
MY EXPERIENCE:

I did it at the start of the year applied in february and did it in March. It was informative and a good experience.THE OT WS JUST AWSUM ! June july is the mst wanted time so apply at least a month back prior to start date.

If anything is unanswered u r free to question.

Other people say:

Mirza Ijaz: U can start elective on the day of submission of application. I did electives last year.

Its btr to go in grps ov 5 or 6 rather dn goin alone...its easy.nu striknes abt timings..u cn skip few days evn..u cn cmplet as much work in a singl day as u lyke...response ov surgeons, profesrz there is realy gud(except a few)APART FROM LEARNIN ITS a sort ov fun 2..coz u learn for urself n nt 4 EXAMS..

1st Year IMPORTANT TOPICS (Anatomy)

By Farkhanda QaiserOkay finally here it is. The all-important guide for the 1st year students. I’ve compiled all the prof and sendup questions of last year as well as the remnants of class tests that I had.But before you go on to read them, keep in mind the following very tested tidbits:For profs, NEVER leave any topic untouched and unread. Go through all topics so that in viva, you have atleast some idea about what the examiner is asking.NEVER lose your sendup question paper because there are high chances that some of the questions will be repeated in profs as you can see in the following example of anatomy question paper and same goes for the MCQs. Most of them are repeated. So here’s what we had done, in our facebook class group, we had made a discussion topic, and everyone told the MCQs of sendups and discussed them. Well, you may think us nerds or whatever but trust me that discussion proved very fruitful for all those who participated in it.I think enough has bin said about orga…

Salam everyone, let me start in the name of Allah who’s the greatest benefactor of all mankind. I am going to write a detailed composition regarding preparation for USMLE Step 1. I am a final year student at King Edward Medical University and I took my exam on June 10th. Final year is the year before internship/ house job in Pakistan. I just got my scores: 99/266

Let me introduce some myths surrounding USMLE Step 1 which are especially prevalent within Pakistan; I am not too sure about India because I heard their students typically appear in their final years.

Myth number 1:Do not appear for USMLE Step 1 within your graduation

 Verdict: Baseless, illogical reasoning

Explanation: This is so prevalent in Pakistan it’s almost pathetic. One of the biggest concerns surrounding our students is that Step 1 is a huge risk to be taken before graduation. Let me put it in another way: Step1 would always remain a risk whenever it is taken, …
